The Band Perry has offered to pay all funeral expenses for nine members of a family who died in a house fire in western Kentucky.
Chad Watson and his 11-year-old daughter Kylie survived Thursday’s (Jan. 30) the fire at their family’s home in rural Muhlenberg County, but Watson’s wife LaRae (Nikki) and eight of their other children died from smoke inhalation, according to investigators with the Kentucky State Police. The children who died were Madison, 15, Kaitlyn, 14, Morgan, 13, Emily, 9, Samuel, 8, Raegan, 6, and 4-year-old twins Mark and Nathaniel.
After an electric baseboard heater started the fire, Watson reportedly went back into the burning home three times to rescue family members. He and Kylie remain hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Noting the Watson family often struggled with finances, their pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Central City, Ky., told reporters, “They have nothing.”
In times of unthinkable tragedy, communities pull together. Donations for the family are being accepted at least two area banks.
And I know this is not the first time the members of The Band Perry have done something out of the goodness of their hearts, but their latest gesture speaks volumes about their compassion for others in times of need.
